HOW EXHAUSTS WORK

Basics
The exhaust is the main outlet for garbage waste (gas) from your engine after it has burnt up the gasoline. The exhaust system includes these main parts:

- Headers
- Cat Converter
- Mid Pipe
- Rear Section
- Mufflers

The headers are the pipes leading to the underbody exhaust system directly from the engine. Replacing these with an aftermarket set of headers will greatly increase airflow and horsepower, as well as sound.

The cat converter is a small pipe, in which temperatures get so hot, it will help convert the exhaust gas into a more environmentally safe fume and reduce the smell of gasoline.

The mid pipe is the pipe after the cat converter. If you combined the mid pipe and rear section, you would have a cat back exhaust (everything from the cat converter to the back.)

The rear section is the pipe after the mid pipe that leads to the muffler

The muffler is the part of the exhaust system, the final part, that will decide how the finished sound of the exhaust system will be. By replacing your stock muffler with an aftermarket one, you will be able to increase horsepower and give your exhaust that aggressive racing sound.

Horsepower
Horsepower ranges differ from car to car, but replacing parts of your exhaust system, or even the entire system, can increase horsepower as much as 20+.

Installation
All exhaust parts fit into the bolt-on modification category, which means that no custom work is needed. With the right tools, life, and some time, you can simply take off the old exhaust parts and put the aftermarket pieces directly on.

It is always recommended you do this at a professional shop for your own safety.
